A Vallejo man who walked in front of a tractor-trailer rig on Highway 99 in Ceres on Saturday afternoon was struck and killed, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash was reported at 4:15 p.m., CHP Modesto office spokesman Officer Tom Olsen said Sunday morning. The preliminary investigation found that Stockton resident William Hutton, 63, was driving the big rig north on Highway 99 approaching Hatch Road.

The Vallejo man, 28, entered the traffic lane and was struck by the right front of the truck. His name has been withheld pending notification of family.

The incident closed the northbound No. 3 lane and backed up traffic for at least a couple of miles.
