Modesto motorcyclist seriously injured in crash on Salida Boulevard

California Highway Patrol

A Modesto motorcyclist suffered major head injuries in a crash with a pickup on Salida Boulevard on Tuesday night.

The crash occurred at about 7:44 p.m. in the northbound lane, north of Pelandale Avenue, in front of the Del Taco, said California Highway Patrol Officer Ming Hsu.

Alejandro Contreras, 19, of Modesto, was driving a Ford F-150 and slowed to make a U-turn at an opening in the concrete median. Michael Lowery, 23, of Modesto, riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, rear-ended the back of the pickup, Hsu said.

Hsu said Lowery, who’d been wearing a helmet, was taken to a Modesto hospital with major head injuries. His condition was not available Wednesday.

Contreras was not injured.

There is a “No U-turn” sign at the location the collision occurred but investigators are considering all potential factors like the speed of the motorcycle and its traveling distance from the Ford prior to the collision, Hsu said.
