Modesto motorcyclist killed in crash on Highway 120 east of Knights Ferry
A Modesto motorcyclist died Monday night in a collision with an Oakdale man on Highway 120 east of Knights Ferry.
Just before 10 p.m., the 67-year-old man was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle west on Highway 120 when he collided with the side of a Chevrolet Silverado that had been going north on Rushing Hill Lookout Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
As a result, the rider was ejected from the motorcycle and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His name was withheld by authorities pending notification of his family.
There is a stop sign on Rushing Hill Lookout Road between the eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 120. CHP Officer Steve Machado said it remains under investigation whether the driver of the Chevrolet, 62-year-old Ronald Ray Woods of Oakdale, ran the stop sign, failed to yield after stopping or already was established in the roadway when the motorcyclist hit him.
Machado said Woods was transporting bee boxes at the time of the collision. One of the boxes was damaged and agitated bees were flying around at the scene.
The CHP is looking for witnesses to the collision or the events leading up to it. Anyone with information is asked to contact the office at 209-984-3944.
