Emergency personnel responded to a head-on collision on 26-mile Road near Woodward Reservoir north of Oakdale, Calif., on Friday, July 30, 2022.

The CHP is reporting that a head-on crash Friday afternoon near Woodward Reservoir and north of Oakdale killed both male drivers, one an Oakdale resident and the other a Murphys resident.

The crash closed 26 Mile and Eastman roads, the California Highway Patrol said in its online log. The collision was reported about 3:45 p.m.

The CHP in a news release identified the Murphys man as 45-year-old Clinton T. Tutthill. It did not identify the Oakdale man, pending notification of his family, but said he was 50 years old.

The CHP said based on its preliminary investigation the two men were on 26 Mile Road north of Eastman Road. The Oakdale man was southbound in a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe at an unknown speed. Tutthill was northbound in a 2013 Ford F-150 pickup. Both were wearing safety equipment.

The CHP said for an unknown reason the Oakdale man “allowed his Chevy Tahoe to cross over the painted double-yellow lines and collide head-on” with Tutthill’s Ford F-150.

Emergency personnel responded, and life-saving measures were undertaken. But both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

“It is unknown at this time if drugs and/or alcohol are a factor in this collision,” according to the news release.
