The driver in a fatal crash July 20 on Finney Road near Modesto is facing DUI and other potential charges, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities identified Jorge Orozcocamacho, 25, of Modesto, as the driver of a Chevrolet Suburban that left the roadway and crashed in an orchard.

The incident occurred about 11 p.m., south of North Avenue. Isaiah Martinez, a 24-year-old passenger in the SUV, was killed. A second passenger, Alexis Yepez, 25, of Salida, was not injured.

According to the CHP, officers determined that Orozcocamacho had been driving under the influence. He was arrested but was taken to Memorial Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.

The CHP said in a news release Thursday that charges against the driver will be recommended to the District Attorney’s Office.

The SUV was going south on Finney Road at an estimated speed of 60 mph, and, for unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the vehicle, the CHP said. The SUV went off the roadway and struck a fence and four trees, overturning several times.

Martinez was not wearing his seat belt, the CHP said.
