Name released of man fatally struck by train in downtown Modesto
The man who died after being struck by a train in downtown Modesto on Saturday evening has been identified as 40-year-old Norman Collins.
Collins, who is believed to be transient, was hit by a northbound train on the tracks between Eighth and Ninth streets, according to police.
Information about the type of train or what Collins was doing prior to the collision was not immediately available. Modesto police Lt. Mike Hammond said it has not been determined whether the incident was an accident or a suicide.
