Names of Note: Stanislaus seniors win honors for efforts on health and other causes

Five people received Outstanding Senior Citizen awards for their devotion to health, education and other volunteer causes.

The Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors recognized one resident from each district on Tuesday, May 17. The annual event is organized by the county Aging & Veterans Services.

More about the 2022 winners:

District 1: Jane Shaw

She has taught strength training and fall prevention through the Young at Heart program at the Healthy Aging Association. She is a retired respiratory therapist, including care for newborn babies.

Shaw has been involved in church missions since her teen years, including service in Mexico and the Dominican Republic. She also has led Bible classes and launched a book club at her church.

Shaw told fellow members about the Cleansing Hope Shower Shuttle for homeless people. They raised $1,100 in two weeks, enough to provide 110 showers.

She and her husband, Herb, also serve the church through preparing communion each month.
