Person struck and killed by train in Salida

A person died Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a train in Salida, the California Highway Patrol said. The collision was at about 3 p.m.

It occurred at tracks that cross Kiernan Avenue just west of Salida Boulevard, CHP spokesman Officer Tom Olsen said. What the person was doing on the tracks has not been determined.

Because the collision occurred where the tracks do not cross a roadway, Union Pacific Railroad police will be investigating, Olsen said. The CHP provided traffic control at the scene.

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office said Thursday that the victim appears to be an adult male, but positive identification has yet to be made.
