Update: Grayson residents evacuated because of vegetation fire allowed to return home
Update, 3:50 p.m.: The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office reports that all evacuation orders have been lifted and residents have been allowed to return home.
Original story: All firefighting resources in the county have been called upon to combat a vegetation fire in Grayson that has residents being evacuated, according to a Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
There’s concern that structures are threatened, Sgt. Luke Schwartz said about 2:35 p.m., but at that time it remained a vegetation fire only.
A command center has been established, and deputies are moving west from Stakes Street, going door to door to evacuate residents.
People not in the area already are being asked to avoid it.
The National Weather Service has a wind advisory in effect until 5 p.m. and says gusts in Stanislaus County may reach up to 23 mph. The Modesto Irrigation District’s online weather summary says winds Sunday have been recorded up to 13 mph.
About 11 a.m., a Facebook post by the Patterson Irrigator said, “Multiple agencies are responding to a vegetation fire in the river bottom near Grayson. Grayson Road is closed between Cox Road/Laird Street to the west and Laird Park, east of the river.”
