Woman critically injured after being struck by car, MPD says

A pedestrian was critically injured after being struck by a car Monday afternoon just east of downtown, Modesto police said.

The accident occurred around 4:09 p.m. near the intersection of La Loma Avenue and Yosemite Boulevard, a Police Department spokesperson said.

A brown sedan hit the pedestrian as she crossed the road, causing major injuries, police said. She was taken to an area hospital.

Yosemite Boulevard was shut down between La Loma and Santa Cruz Avenue until about 7:30 p.m. The driver stayed on scene and was cooperating while the traffic unit investigated, police said.

It is unclear how the collision occurred or what the injuries were. Police did not release any identifying information about the pedestrian or anyone in the vehicle.
