Rainfall in Modesto helps totals but is still short of seasonal average. What’s next?
Early morning rainfall on Monday was enough to tip the scales to beat out last year’s seasonal totals, but Modesto is still behind the seasonal average.
It rained just over a half-inch during the early morning hours on Monday, bringing the 2021-22 seasonal total to 9.49 inches, according to data from the Modesto Irrigation District. That is 78.17 percent of average during the third straight year of drought in California.
During the 2020-21 season, which runs from July 1 to June 30, it rained 9.40 inches in Modesto. According to the MID data, average seasonal rainfall in Modesto is 12.14 inches.
Scattered showers are expected to continue throughout the afternoon and evening on Monday, possibly bringing Modesto’s total to 1 inch, according to the National Weather Service. There is even a chance of Isolated thunderstorm, hail and brief heavy downpours.
The rain is expected to stop by Monday night, leaving mild temperatures in the 70s for the rest of the week and increasing to the 80s by the weekend.
