Stanislaus sheriff, Modesto police chief to talk domestic terrorism at town hall meeting
Domestic terrorism will be the topic of a town hall meeting Thursday evening in downtown Modesto.
The presenter at the free event will be FBI Supervisory Special Agent Christopher McKinney, who is the Sacramento Division Domestic Terrorism Program manager. Panelists will be Stanislaus County Sheriff Jeff Dirkse and Modesto Police Department Chief Brandon Gillespie.
Moderating the program will be Garth Stapley, opinions editor of The Modesto Bee.
A flier for the program quotes FBI Director Christopher Wray as saying, “Unfortunately, Jan. 6 was not an isolated event. The problem of domestic terrorism has been metastasizing across the country for a long time now, and it’s not going away anytime soon.”
The town hall is presented by the Modesto/Stanislaus Branch of the NAACP and the Stanislaus Chapter of the ACLU.
It will run from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Redeemer Modesto church, 820 H St.
Registration is required and can be done online at www.naacpmodestostanislaus.org.
Attendees are asked to wear masks.
