Man struck and killed by pickup on Highway 49 was Jamestown resident, CHP says

California Highway Patrol

The California Highway Patrol has identified a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a pickup truck late last month on Highway 49 as a Jamestown man.

James Jenson, 36, was walking around 6:40 p.m. Feb. 25 just north of Main Street in Jamestown when he was struck, the CHP said.

In a previous release, the CHP said Jenson was on the shoulder of the road.

Robert Campbell, 65, of Modesto was driving a 2022 Chevrolet pickup truck north when Jenson suddenly entered the northbound lane. It was not enough time to take evasive action, the CHP said.

Jenson died of his injuries after being transported to Adventist Health Sonora hospital. Campbell was uninjured.

Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, CHP said.
