The drivers killed in a head-on crash Monday on West Main Street near Carpenter Road have been identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.

Abraham Farias, 36, of Turlock was driving a westbound Subaru SUV that collided with a Honda sedan driven by Oscar Armando Garcia, 45, of Patterson, the office said Tuesday.

The California Highway Patrol earlier reported that the accident happened at about 5:45 a.m. Emergency personnel pronounced both drivers dead at the scene. No passengers were involved.

The CHP said the Subaru had entered the eastbound lane to pass traffic when it collided with the Honda. The Subaru rolled over and was engulfed in flames, the report said.

The CHP said both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. It did not know if drugs or alcohol contributed to it.

The CHP temporarily closed West Main between Carpenter and Jennings Road following the crash.
