California Highway Patrol

A Sonora woman died Monday after a morning crash on State Route 49 south of Jamestown, the California Highway Patrol said.

According to an initial CHP investigation, 47-year-old Michelle Robles of Sonora was driving a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta about 50-55 mph on the highway around 6:45 a.m.

Sienna Nulph, 21, of Sonora was driving on Chicken Ranch Road in a 2003 Ford Mustang. As Nulph entered SR 49 from the side road, the front of Robles’ Jetta crashed into the driver’s side of the Mustang.

Nulph was transferred to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, where she died of her injuries. Robles was treated at at Adventist Health Sonora for minor injuries.

Both women were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision, and drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor, CHP said.

Northbound SR 49 was closed for about an hour after the crash.
