Update: Three killed in crash at Carver and Briggsmore in Modesto
Three people were killed and “several others” were injured in a crash at the intersection of Briggsmore Avenue and Carver Road on Tuesday afternoon, according to Modesto police.
The four-vehicle collision was reported at 4:12 p.m., Lt. Felton Payne said.
A semi hit a car that then hit two other cars. The three people who died were all in the first car, hit by the big rig. Two people were declared dead at the scene and the third at a local hospital, Modesto police Sgt. Kalani Souza said. Their identities and ages have not been released; Souza said all three were males.
Drivers should avoid the area. Eastbound Briggsmore is blocked at Prescott Road, northbound Carver is blocked just south of Joanne Avenue and southbound Carver is blocked at West Briggsmore, Payne said.
Neighbors who live in the area said the intersection sees about one accident a week, but Tuesday’s crash is the worst they have seen.
