A Modesto man died Saturday following a rollover crash into a front yard northeast of Briggsmore and Rose avenues.

Just after 8 a.m., the driver of a 2011 Nissan Altima was westbound on Lancey Drive when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle veered off the roadway, according to Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Bear.

The Nissan hit a tree on the south side of the street and overturned onto its right side.

The driver was trapped in the vehicle for 20 minutes as firefighters worked to free him.

He was identified Monday by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as 44-year-old Jerrod Keith Bowens.

He was taken to a local hospital, where he died, Bear said.

No one else was involved in the crash.

She said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. Investigators are looking into whether Bowens suffered a medical issue while driving. A cause of death has not yet been determined.
