The driver who died in a crash on Highway 120 near Jamestown early Sunday morning has been identified as a Copperopolis man.

William Reeves, 57, was driving a Buick sedan at high speed east on Highway 120, west of Green Springs Road, when the car traveled over the north shoulder and partially onto the north dirt center median, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Buick struck a marker and Reeves lost control. The vehicle traveled southeast across the eastbound lane, hit an asphalt curb on the south shoulder and then overturned several times before coming to rest on the shoulder.

Reeves died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the CHP.

Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be factors in the crash.
