A Modesto man, identified Monday by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as 30-year-old Harley Mason-Kocher, was killed in a crash Sunday on Santa Fe Avenue just north of Leedom Road, in front of Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson.

The collision, involving Mason-Kocher’s 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a 2015 Infiniti sedan, occurred about 2:35 p.m., a California Highway Patrol news release said.

Emergency personnel arrived to find the motorcycle and sedan on the west shoulder. Mason-Kocher was lying on the west shoulder and died at the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates Mason-Kocher was southbound on Santa Fe, approaching Leedom, when he tried to pass other motorists. He reentered the southbound lane and struck the rear of the Infiniti, driven by Maria Gomez, 27, of Modesto.

The impact caused the motorcyclist to be ejected onto the shoulder of the road. Gomez pulled over her car. She and her 5-year-old passenger, Evelyn Hernandez, were not hurt, the CHP said.

It has not been determined if drugs and/or alcohol contributed to this collision.
