A blaze early Monday destroyed a residence and killed a cat at a south Modesto mobile home park, the Fire Department said.

The department responded about 1:30 a.m. to Sunrise Village, along South Seventh Street at the Tuolumne River, a Facebook post stated.

The single-wide home was burning extensively when firefighters arrived, with flames coming from the front door and front and side windows, but they were able to control it within about 10 minutes, the department said.

“The occupants were able to get out,” the post said. “Two cats were removed from the structure. One was able to be rescued and one was found deceased. “

The cause of the fire is under investigation. It happened amid some of the heavy rain of recent days.

The American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist with temporary housing for the displaced family.
