Stanislaus deputies investigating death of man found along rural road southwest of Modesto

The death of a man found roadside Sunday morning near the intersection of West Service and Jennings roads southwest of Modesto is being investigated by Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office detectives.

Deputies responded about 9:15 a.m. to a report of a person down on the side of the road, according to a Facebook post by the Sheriff’s Office. They found the man’s body on the north side of West Service Road.

“Due to the unknown circumstances of the man’s death, investigators from the Crimes Against Persons unit responded and took over the investigation,” the post says. “Detectives and the Crime Scene Unit are processing the scene for evidence.”

No additional information on the death was immediately released. Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Erich Layton said by text message that the man is Latino but has not been positively identified.
