The public is invited to a celebration of life for former Modesto Mayor Carol Whiteside on Sunday, Oct. 17, at Graceada Park.

Whiteside died in February at the age of 78.

The event, which will be held at Mancini Bowl, will start at 4 p.m.

The program will include guest speakers, among them Modesto native and former secretary of agriculture Ann Veneman. There also will be music and a chance for others to speak about Whiteside, the founder of the Great Valley Center and overall champion for the Northern San Joaquin region. There also will be a tree-planting at the park.

Organizers request those attending bring a mask, and, if they wish, a picnic meal or snack.

The celebration of life is expected to last until 6 p.m.
