Crash kills 90-year-old driver on Highway 108 west of Oakdale, CHP reports

A solo crash Monday just west of Oakdale killed a 90-year-old driver from Copperopolis, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The unidentified man was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck east on Highway 108 when it went off the south edge near Brady Road about 2:50 p.m., a news release stated.

The vehicle hit a metal pole and came to rest on its roof with an electrical line having fallen onto it, according to the report. The hazard did not keep emergency workers from extricating the seat-belted driver, the CHP said.

He was taken by ambulance to Oak Valley Hospital in Oakdale, where he later died, according to the release. The CHP is still investigating what caused the crash, including whether drugs or alcohol were involved.

One of the eastbound lanes was closed to traffic while emergency crews worked the scene.
