Stanislaus coroner ID’s victim in ‘bizarre’ Beckwith Road death in Modesto
The 42-year-old Modesto man who died Tuesday night when he was pinned beneath his pickup truck on Beckwith Road has been identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as Eduardo Resendiz-Miranda.
The Modesto office of the California Highway Patrol, which is investigating the incident in the Wood Colony area of Modesto, had no new information to release Thursday. “It’s a very bizarre fatality,” Officer Tom Olsen said by text message, “but we are conducting a thorough investigation to find out exactly what happened that night.”
About 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, a 911 caller reported finding the victim on the ground on orchard-lined Beckwith west of Finney Road. Fire and medical crews and Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies were first on the scene, CHP Officer Aaron Norseen said Wednesday, and reported that Resendiz-Miranda was pinned on his stomach with the truck’s left rear tire on his back.
The engine was running and the transmission was in gear. The truck was lifted enough to free the victim. Lifesaving efforts were performed, but he died at the scene, Norseen said.
The preliminary investigation suggests Resendiz-Miranda was westbound on Beckwith and may have fallen out of the cab of the moving pickup and been caught beneath the wheel.
