Man struck by vehicle while riding sit-down scooter in Modesto crosswalk dies

A man crossing Yosemite Boulevard on a sit-down mobility scooter Wednesday morning was struck by a vehicle and later died from his injuries, according to Modesto police.

The crash happened a little before 7 a.m. at Yosemite and Ruffino Avenue, just west of La Loma Avenue, said Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Bear.

Witnesses told officers the man on the scooter was using the crosswalk when he was struck by the westbound vehicle.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, Bear said. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected of being factors in the crash.

Identifying information on the man killed was not available late Wednesday afternoon.
