After 28 years at East La Loma Park, the Modesto Rotary Club’s Senior Stride this year will be held, well, all over the community.

That’s because the COVID-19 pandemic prohibits a mass gathering, so the event in partnership with the Healthy Aging Association will be a virtual walk. Participants are asked to register as they’ve done in the past but walk on their own, starting at home and staying in their neighborhoods.

The virtual walk is scheduled for Friday at 9 a.m.

“We invite you to take pictures of yourself participating in the Virtual Walk and email them to morotary@modestorotary.org,” says a flyer for the event. “We will put the pictures together for the memory of our 29th Senior Stride.”

Organizers have distributed goodie bags and T-shirts for participants to wear. Additionally, the names of all registered walkers will be entered into a drawing for prizes.

When held at East La Loma Park, hundreds of participants in recent years have walked either a 1.5-mile or 3-mile course.
