Crews rescue hiker who fell down bluff along Stanislaus River in Riverbank

A hiker had moderate injuries after falling about 50 feet down a bluff along the Stanislaus River in Riverbank on Thursday night, the Modesto Fire Department reported.

It was one of a few agencies that respond at about 8:45 p.m. to the area of Claus Road and Highway 108. A department Facebook post said two people were hiking after sundown when one of them slipped down the bluff.

Rescuers needed about an hour to deploy ropes and pull the hiker from the bank, the post said. That person’s age, gender and residence were not reported.

The rescuers also included Oak Valley Ambulance, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District.
