More mandatory evacuations possible in western Stanislaus County due to Canyon Zone fire

Here’s the latest on the Del Puerto Canyon ==> Windy conditions spread fire in Del Puerto Canyon, bring ash and smoke to Modesto area

Original story:

Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies are advising residents of Diablo Grande, the resort community near Patterson, to evacuate because of the wildfires in nearby Del Puerto Canyon.

County Office of Emergency Services spokesman Raj Singh said Monday at about 5 p.m. that deputies had completed the mandatory evacuations of residents living along Del Puerto Canyon Road.

Information about how many residents were contacted and how many evacuated was not immediately available.

He said about 18 Sheriff’s Department employees, from deputies to Sheriff Jeff Dirkse, were going door to door in Diablo Grande, advising residents to leave. Singh said Diablo Grande has 703 homes.

Singh said the advisory evacuation means residents face the threat from the wildfires. He said if residents don’t leave, they should prepare to leave in case the evacuation becomes mandatory.

“If anyone can leave now, that would be better,” he said. “At a minimum, they need to be packed and ready to go. Now is the time to prepare. If the mandatory evacuation order comes, there will be no time.”

Singh said authorities have closed Del Puerto Canyon Road at where it becomes Sperry Avenue.

Cal Fire reported the fires in the canyon started Sunday and had burned 1,851 acres as of about 4 p.m. Monday. The Canyon Zone fires consist of four blazes. Singh has said they may have been started by lightning.

Cal Fire reported the Canyon Zone fires were at 0% percent containment as of about 4 p.m. Monday.

The Canyon Zone fires are among the wildfires burning across California as it and much of the West Coast broils under a prolonged heat wave.
