Names of Note: Foster Farms of Livingston steps up for food banks. So does Starbucks
Foster Farms of Livingston has donated another 105 tons of chicken to food banks facing high demand with the pandemic.
The recipients include Second Harvest Food Bank of San Joaquin & Stanislaus Counties, based in Manteca.
The others are in Sacramento, Fresno, San Francisco, San Diego and Seattle. Foster Farms produces some of its chicken in Washington.
The donation is raw chicken pieces in retail trays that were frozen before shipment. It amounts to about 420,000 servings, on top of the 2.4 million that Foster Farms gave to these and other food banks in April.
“COVID-19 has changed the very fabric of our lives and has added to the challenge of ensuring that no one in this country goes hungry, ” said Ira Brill, vice president of communications at Foster Farms, in a news release.
The company, the largest poultry producer in the West, urges the public to donate, too. Second Harvest is at www.localfoodbank.org.
Coffee giant drops $83,500 on Second Harvest
Starbucks provided $83,500 to help Second Harvest with its Mobile Pantry. It travels to places where people lack regular sources of fresh food.
The donation is part of $1 million that the coffee chain is giving to mobile services at 13 food banks in the Feeding America network.
“One in five people in San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties struggle with hunger,” Second Harvest CEO Keenon Krick said in a news release. “We are proud to partner with Starbucks and Feeding America to ensure that people who struggle with hunger have access to wholesome meals.”
