Body found along Modesto’s McHenry Avenue is an adult male

Authorities are investigating the death of a man found Saturday just north of downtown Modesto.

The preliminary investigation treated the death as suspicious not because of anything found at the scene but because the body appears to have been there “for some time,” police Lt. Jason Grogan said Sunday morning.

The Police Department said, in a post on its Facebook page Saturday afternoon: “MPD is currently conducting a death investigation in the 900 block of McHenry Avenue. Expect a heavy police presence in the area. We will provide updates when we have more information.”

The scene is between Morris and Roseburg avenues, near Citi Auto Sales. The information was posted at 3:10 p.m.

Modesto Police spokeswoman Sharon Bear said via text Saturday evening that the body is that of an adult male. No other identifying information was available.

An autopsy will be scheduled early next week, Bear said.
