Residents in west Modesto now have a coronavirus testing location closer to home.

The OptumServe testing facility in Keyes was moved on Monday to the Neighborhood Center at Marshall Park on Chicago Avenue, south of Paradise Road.

An area including the west and south sections of Modesto has the city’s highest concentration of COVID-19 illness at 32 cases per 10,000 population. Stanislaus County public health has confirmed 150 cases in those neighborhoods since March and an increase of 43 cases since June 5.

The free testing is for adults with symptoms such as fever, cough, shortness of breath or fatigue. It’s also for those who have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 illness. Children are not tested at this site for health and safety reasons.

According to a news release, about 135 people can be tested each day at the Marshall Park facility. Test results are provided within 48 to 72 hours. People arriving for an appointment park their cars and walk into the building.

Any county residents can make an appointment for a free test by calling (888) 634-1123 or completing an online form at https://lhi.care/covidtesting. Agricultural workers, the homeless and undocumented people are welcome.

In April, state health officials chose Keyes for one of the 80 sites in California that were established to improve coronavirus testing access in underserved communities.

County officials said this week the OptumServe site was moved because public use had fallen off and there was need in west Modesto.

The state runs the testing facility in conjunction with OptumServe.
