The woman struck and killed by a train Saturday morning in Modesto was Djuna Neel, 56, of Modesto, according to the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.

The incident happened about 9:30 a.m. Neel was crossing the Union Pacific tracks about 40 feet north of the intersection of Seventh and B streets when she apparently failed to notice the oncoming train, Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Bear said.

Lifesaving measures were taken, she said, but Neel was pronounced dead at the scene.
