Modesto man dies after crashing into cemetery wall on Scenic Drive

A 69-year-old Modesto man died Tuesday evening after his truck crashed into the stone wall along the cemetery on Scenic Drive.

Just before 9 p.m. the man was driving a Dodge Dakota east on Scenic when for unknown reasons he veered into and across the westbound lanes, then crashed into the wall, according to Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Bear.

He was identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as Nemorio Placencia.

Placencia and his passenger, an adult woman, were both taken to hospitals. The woman had minor injuries but Placencia died at the hospital.

Bear said drugs and/or alcohol are not suspected factors in the collision.

“We are looking into the possibility of a medical issue,” she said.

The Department is asking any witnesses to the collision to contact Officer Ryan Olson at olsonr@modestopd.com.
