Visitation rules are relaxed at Modesto hospital. Elective procedures have resumed

Doctors Medical Center of Modesto is relaxing a no-visitor policy that was imposed near the start of the coronavirus outbreak.

According to a press release Tuesday, the hospital on Florida Avenue is phasing in limited visitation. COVID-19 patients or those suspected of coronavirus infection remain under strict quarantine rules.

Effective Tuesday, the new policies are:

General hospital patients are allowed one designated visitor or support person.

Two designated visitors or support persons are permitted for pediatric patients or infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Only one may be present at a time.

Patients with physical, intellectual or developmental disabilities are allowed two visitors or support people, with one present at a time.

Visitation for end-of-life patients is managed case-by-case. Multiple visitors may be permitted.

Visitors may enter through the hospital’s main lobby. A visitor for a patient needing emergency services may enter through the hospital’s emergency department.

The news release said all visitors are screened for fever and respiratory symptoms and are given a mask to wear inside the facility. Hand hygiene is expected.

Safe distancing and cleaning protocols are in effect in waiting areas. Visitors are asked to stay in patient rooms and not gather in common areas.

With the state slowly moving into the reopening phase of the coronavirus emergency, Doctors Medical Center recently resumed elective procedures and has extensive safety measures in place, the news release said.

“Our safety standards were developed with key principles in mind to maximize safety and maintain vigilance of all potential risk,” said Warren Kirk, chief executive officer of Doctors.
