Two adults and two children escaped injury in a fire that badly damaged their home in the Del Rio neighborhood north of Modesto on Tuesday night, April 28, 2020.

A family of four escaped injury in a fire that did major damage to a home in the Del Rio community north of Modesto on Tuesday night, the Salida Fire Protection District reported.

About 10 p.m., crews from the Modesto, Ceres, Escalon and Stanislaus Consolidated fire departments were dispatched to the 7000 block of Serr Court to assist Salida. They found a large, two-story house well involved in flames, a Modesto battalion chief reported.

Salida district Capt. John Alberti said two adults and two children were safely out of the house. No one else was reported to be in the house, which firefighters confirmed with a search.

Crews were able to contain the fire to the garage and a second-story bedroom, Alberti said, and conducted salvage operations to recover the family’s belongings. Damage to the home is estimated at $800,000, he said.

The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation by the Stanislaus Fire Investigation Unit.
