Here’s when Modesto can expect some relief from hot weather
Modesto can expect some relief after about a week of daytime temperatures running 10 to 15 degrees above normal, including an expected high of 91 for Tuesday.
The National Weather Service in Sacramento says we can expect a gradual cooling over the next several days, with the daytime high reaching a seasonable mid 70s by Sunday.
A high pressure ridge has keep temperatures above normal in Northern California’s interior, NWS meteorologist Karleisa Rogacheski said. For Modesto that has meant daytime highs in the mid to upper 80s to low 90s.
Rogacheski said a low pressure trough will start pushing the high pressure ridge east, allowing cooler air and more seasonable temperatures to return.
“We’re about 10 to 15 degrees higher than normal,” she said about the recent warm weather.
Modesto parks reopened
The weather service is forecasting highs of 86 degrees for Wednesday and Thursday in Modesto before the temperature dips to 81 for Friday and Saturday. Rogacheski said Modesto can expect a high in the mid 70s Sunday. She said it is too soon to say how long the seasonable temperatures will last.
The warmer weather has brought people outdoors and coincides with Modesto, Stanislaus County and several other cities in the county reopening their parks after closing them because of the new coronavirus pandemic.
Officials stress park-goers need to keep their guard up by practicing good social distancing and limiting their use of basketballs and other sports equipment to members of the same household.
Officials say park-goers should use playground equipment and park bathrooms at their own risk. For instance, Stanislaus County will not disinfect its playgrounds but will clean and disinfect its bathrooms twice a week. Modesto will maintain its park bathrooms twice a week but not its playground equipment.
