Motorcyclist, pedestrian badly hurt in Stanislaus crash, Highway Patrol reports
A motorcyclist and a pedestrian both suffered serious injuries Wednesday morning in a crash in Westley on Stanislaus County’s Westside, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The collision occurred at 10:40 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 33 at Frank Cox Road, Modesto-area CHP spokesman Officer Thomas Olsen said. Patterson resident Randy Stuart, 61, was riding north on the highway on his 2008 Harley-Davidson Road King. Grayson resident Felipe Perez, 62, was standing on the west shoulder, just south of the intersection.
Perez failed to see the oncoming motorcycle and ran directly into its path, Olsen said. Stuart applied his brakes while turning to the right, but could not avoid hitting Perez. Stuart fell to the ground as his Harley continued north before coming to rest on the east shoulder, Olsen said.
Perez was taken by air ambulance to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. It is believed he fractured both ankles, Olsen said. Stuart was taken by ground ambulance to Memorial Medical Center for a possible broken right ankle and abrasions to his right leg.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the crash, Olsen said.
