Stanislaus releases final count for March primary
Stanislaus County elections has released its final results for the March 3 presidential primary, with the results delayed because of the new coronavirus pandemic.
The final tally shows Deputy District Attorney John Mayne will face court Commissioner Ken Hara in a November runoff election for a Stanislaus Superior Court judgeship.
Mayne received 46.43 percent of the vote. Hara received 26.86 percent, and Family Justice Center attorney Jared Carrillo received 26.72 percent. Hara received 26,541 votes compared with 26,401 votes for Carrillo, a difference of 140 votes.
Mayne could have avoided a runoff had he received more than 50 percent of the vote.
The elections office reported turnout for the March primary was 43.51 percent, with 113,666 of Stanislaus County’s 261,263 registered voters casting ballots.
The primary included races for three seats on the county Board of Supervisors, California’s 10th Congressional District, which covers Stanislaus and southern San Joaquin counties, and the state Senate and Assembly.
Supervisor Vito Chiesa ran unopposed in securing another term on the Board of Supervisors. No one received more than 50 percent of the vote in the two other Board of Supervisor races. The top two vote-getters in each of those races will face each other in November runoffs.
Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District Capt. Buck Condit will face Modesto Councilman Bill Zoslocki in November for one board seat and Ceres Councilman Channce Condit will face municipal attorney Tom Hallinan for the second board seat.
Supervisors Kristin Olsen and Jim DeMartini, who now hold those seats, did not run for re-election.
U.S. Rep. Josh Harder, D-Turlock, will face former Turlock Councilman and Republican Ted Howze in November to represent the 10th Congressional District.
