Woman dies after being hit by two vehicles in Modesto
A woman in her mid-20s died Thursday night after being hit by two vehicles on Claus Road, bringing to five the number of pedestrian fatalities in Modesto this year.
The woman was crossing Claus at Milnes Road when she was hit by a vehicle in the northbound lane, said Modesto police Traffic Unit Sgt. Lance Nicolai. The impact pushed her into the southbound lane, where she was hit by a second vehicle. She died at the scene.
Nicolai said the woman had identification with a Los Angeles address, but it is not clear if she still lived there, because she appeared to be transient. Her name was withheld pending notification of her family.
Drivers of both vehicles stopped at the scene, and neither was suspected to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
There have been seven traffic-related fatalities in Modesto this year, and five of them involved pedestrians, Nicolai said. The pedestrian was determined to be at fault in four of those collisions, he said.
