Driver making turn from Yosemite Boulevard in Modesto kills pedestrian
A woman was struck and killed by an SUV on Tuesday afternoon as she crossed Kerr Avenue at Yosemite Boulevard just east of the Modesto Gospel Mission.
The crash occurred about 2:45 p.m., according to a news release from the Modesto Police Department. The woman, whose name is being withheld pending family notification and whose age was not immediately available, was walking east across Kerr at the T-shaped intersection.
The driver of a GMC Yukon, 45-year-old Amarante Medina, was westbound on Yosemite and turning left onto Kerr when he struck the woman.
The woman was taken to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries. Medina cooperated with investigators and did not show any signs of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
There are no traffic lights or crosswalks at the intersection, but the woman was crossing where pedestrians should, MPD spokeswoman Sharon Bear said.
Anyone with information on the investigation is asked to call MPD’s Traffic Unit at 209-572-9592.
