A Modesto family of four were displaced by fire that started in their garage Friday night.

The fire broke out just before 10 p.m. at the home in the 500 block of Oakshire Avenue, near Encina in the La Loma neighborhood.

The cause of the fire is likely related to electrical issues, said Dustin Bruley, supervisor of the Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit. He said densely stored items in the garage, combined with a roof collapse made access to the fire difficult.

According to the Modesto Fire Department, the blaze was contained to the garage but there was heavy smoke damage throughout the house.

Bruley said two adults and two children, a teenager and a toddler, were displaced by the fire. It caused an estimated $70,000 in damage.
