Stanislaus coroner identifies the two Crows Landing men killed in crash
The two Crows Landing residents killed Saturday morning in a collision with a big rig were Damian Avina, 22, and Luis Garibay-Avina, 28, the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office reported Monday. It could not say if or how the men are related.
The crash occurred about 6:50 a.m. The big rig, driven by Tracy resident Harinder Chhina, 39, was heading west on Highway 132 and the Volvo driven by Garibay-Avina was traveling south on Hart Road. They collided in the intersection, about seven miles west of Modesto, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Volvo was pushed forward by the big rig and both came to rest in a field at the southwest corner of the intersection. Both men in the Volvo died at the scene. Chhina was not injured.
The CHP is working to determine who had the right of way at the intersection, which is controlled by traffic signals. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.
