Update: Dog and cat jumped from the tree in Lathrop. Video shows the ‘rescue’
People who saw the often-shared photographs this week must have wondered how the dog climbed to the top of the tree in Lathrop. A video surfaced Wednesday showing how the dog and the cat made it to the ground.
To recap: The Lathrop-Manteca Fire District responded to a call recently to rescue a dog from a tree near the end of Mossdale Road in southern San Joaquin County.
As it turned out, the cat and then the dog jumped from the tree after a firefighter climbed a ladder for the rescue. On the video, the firefighter appears to use a twig to encourage the dog to jump to the ground.
Before firefighters were dispatched, the dog had managed to climb up a limb in chasing the cat to the top of the tree, a fire captain said.
The fire district posted a series of photos on the unusual incident on its Facebook page Saturday. “You may have heard that our firefighters get cats out of trees, but what about dogs!?! ... Glad to hear all turned out well for this pooch, and we are pretty sure he’ll think twice about chasing cats up the next tree.”
One picture shows the dog reunited with its owner, who is smiling.
The Lathrop-Manteca fire district in southern San Joaquin County serves the city of Lathrop and nearby rural area.
