A Waterford man died Sunday evening in a rear-end collision with a semi truck on Highway 132 near Modesto Reservoir.

The crash occurred just east of Hazeldean Road at about 9:10 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Raymond Scott, 34, was westbound in a Toyota on the highway when, for reasons still under investigation, he failed to slow down for the semi truck in front of him and hit the back of it.

Scott, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene, according to CHP.

The driver of the semi truck was not injured.

It was unknown Monday whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
