A small fire has temporarily shut down a restaurant in the food court of the Vintage Faire Mall.

The fire started in a transformer in the storage room of the Hot Dog on a Stick around 10:30 a.m., said Modesto Fire Department Battalion Chief Ryan Winton.

Employees used an extinguisher on the fire but it was still smoldering when firefighters arrived.

Winton said they worked with mall staff to isolate and cut power the the restaurant before they could fully extinguished the fire.

Fans were used to clear the area of smoke.

Winton said power remains off at the restaurant and it cannot reopen until it passes an inspection by the health department.
