Three-car crash in Escalon kills one; CHP investigating cause of collision

A three-vehicle crash in Escalon left one person dead Friday night, according to California Highway Patrol.

At approximately 5:25 p.m., three vehicles collided on Santa Fe Road south of Reile Road, on the the southeast outskirts of Escalon. CHP reports one person was pinned in the vehicle, and then ultimately succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.

No identification was given for the victim or the other drivers. The types of vehicles involved was also not revealed. The north and southbound lanes were closed while the investigation was underway, and reopened about a half-hour later, according to CHP.

It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a factor in the collision and the investigation is ongoing.
