What: “Light Up a Life” Holiday Tree Lighting

When: Sunday, 5 p.m.

Where: Memorial Medical Center, 1700 Coffee Road

Info: The 34th annual “Light Up a Life” Holiday Tree Lighting at Memorial Medical Center will take place at the corner of Coffee Road and Briggsmore Avenue. The tree is lit to honor, celebrate and remember loved ones. Symbolic lights and ornaments are available for a nominal donation. Immediately following the ceremony, refreshments will be available at a free community reception. What: Parent Resource Center Poinsettia Fundraiser

When: Deadline Sunday

Where: Parent Resource Center, 811 5th St.

Info: The nonprofit Parent Resource Center will hold its 23rd annual Poinsettia fundraiser. Proceeds benefit the agency's child abuse prevention services. Prices per plant range from $13 for regular size red or pink plants to $30 for larger plants. Orders will be take by phone or in person through Friday, Nov. 29 and online through Sunday, Dec. 1 and available for pick up on Friday, Dec. 6. Free local delivery is available for case orders. Info: The Association of Fundraising Professionals, Yosemite Chapter, invites the public to its next lunch meeting. Guest speaker Jack Alotto, MA, CFRE, will explain how to become a Certified Fundraising Executive. What: Santa Comes to Denair

When: Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Road Dog Cycle, 4600 Main St

Info: 14th annual Santa Day at Road Dog Cycle in Denair, to collect toys, food, and monetary donations for local outreach programs. There will be cookies, hot chocolate and coffee. Pictures with Santa on his Harley will be available, as well as wagon rides around Denair. Info: 209-669-7404.

HUGHSON

What: Christmas table setting viewing event

When: Saturday, Dec. 7, 2-4 p.m.

Where: Hughson United Methodist Church, 2007 Sixth St.

Info: The Hughson United Methodist Church will hold a Christmas table setting viewing event. There will be refreshments along with boutique vendors with handmade items for sale. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the church. Fund raised go to the church’s outreach programs. Call 209-883-4952.

KNIGHTS FERRY

What: Pancakes and Parade

When: Sunday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Main Street Knights Ferry

Info: Knights Ferry invites the community to visit the IOOF Hall, 17615, from 8 a.m. to noon, breakfast is $6. The Knights Ferry Community Church (1860), 12600 Shurl St. at 9:30 a.m.; visit and tour the historic chuch. Then the Historic Knights Ferry Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., to show off its decorated Christmas tree. And the IOOF Stanislaus Lodge #170 (1891) and Summit Masonic Lodge #112 (1870) will have special open houses. And finally the Christmas parade at noon, starting at River's Edge Restaurant. OAKDALE

What: Oakdale Women's Club Luncheon

When: Tuesday, noon

Where: Oakdale Golf & Country Club, 243 N. Stearns Road

Info: The Oakdale Women's Club (OWC) will hold a fund-raising Silent Auction and Bake Sale. Proceeds will support a Science Camp for Oakdale High School girls. OWC members have been asked to bring a gift bag containing personal necessities for the men and women who are living at the Veteran's Hospital in Livermore. Additionally, the Club will make a monetary donation to the veterans cemetery in Santa Nella, for the purchase of wreaths to be placed on the headstones of those buried there. TURLOCK

What: Emanuel Cancer Center Monkey Business

When: Monday, 4-5:30 p.m.

Where: Emanuel Medical Center, 825 Delbon Ave.

Info: Emanuel Cancer Center offers Monkey Business for children and teens, ages 5-17, with a loved one diagnosed with cancer. Through therapeutic activities, expressive art, games and stories, Monkey Business provides support and coping skills for children and their families. Participants eat dinner together; then separate into smaller groups based on age. Parents and guardians also have the opportunity to participate in an adult support group. ESCALON

What: ‘Surviving the Holidays’ seminar

When: Dec. 7, 10 a.m.-noon

Where: Escalon First Baptist Church, 1511 Catherine Way, Escalon

Info: The seminar features practical suggestions and reassurance through video interviews with counselors, grief experts, and other people who have experienced the holidays after their loved one’s death. Topics to be discussed include dealing with hard-hitting emotions, what to do about traditions, how to survive social events, and where to find comfort and strength. Those attending the free seminar will receive a Survival Guide filled with practical tips, encouraging words, journaling ideas, and exercises for daily help through the holiday season. 75 YEARS AGO: The Hammond General Hospital held a contest among staff, officers and patients; to see who could raise more funds for the end of the Sixth War Loan drive. The person who won the contest, would have been named the “Queen”, winner based on per $1 raised equaled 10 votes received. The hospital and commanding officer, Colonel L. R. Poust then hosted a Belle Ball with all involved in the drive.
