In forecast for Modesto this week: First rain of month and big drop in temperature

A 60 percent chance of rain and a high near 69 degrees. Both of those are in the National Weather Service forecast for Modesto in the week ahead. It would be the first rain of the month.

The Modesto Irrigation District recorded a high temperature of 84 degrees on Sunday, and the weather services predicts Monday will be much the same. But then come of couple of days with big drops.

Tuesday will be must partly sunny, with a high near 80, the weather service says. Clouds will build Tuesday night, and with them will come a 20 percent chance of showers Wednesday. The high Wednesday is expected to be near 75.

The chance of showers increases to 60 percent Wednesday night, the seven-day forecast shows, and showers remain likely Thursday. The high that day should be 69 degrees at most, the weather service says.

Friday, the chance of showers continues through the morning, before the day turns mostly sunny, with a predicted nigh near 71.

The clouds are expected to return Friday night and last through the weekend. The high Saturday should be near 75, and on Sunday near 74, with a slight chance of showers.

The last rain measured in Modesto by MID was April 16, and was just 0.04 inches. According to MID historical data, the average rainfall in Modesto in May is 0.48 inches.
