Coroner IDs man who was struck and killed while riding motorized trike in Ceres

The man struck and killed while riding a custom-built, motorized tricycle on Service Road in Ceres on Sunday night has been identified as Mike Vilmur, a Ceres resident. The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has his age as “in his 50s.”

The crash in the area of Service and Moffet roads was reported about 8:45 p.m. Officers found Vilmur lying in the roadway, and a 2015 Lexus IS250 stopped on the north shoulder of Service, west of Moffet, said CHP Officer Ming Hsu.

The preliminary investigation determined the Lexus driver, 32-year-old Yadira Flores of Ceres, was eastbound on Service at about 45 mph. As she approached the trike, which also was eastbound, Flores failed to see it and and struck its rear, Hsu said.

The trike would have been difficult to see, Hsu said. It has no lights or reflectors and sits low to the ground, so Vilmur would have been below Flores’ line of sight over her car’s hood.
