Girl Scouts to offer summer day camps in Salida
To help grade-school girls fill their summer days in creative and educational ways, the Girl Scouts Heart of Central California Council will offer a series of day camps in Salida. The four-day camps are open to all girls, not just Scouts, who will be entering first through sixth grades when the next school year starts.
The camps are:
▪ Dance the Days Away, June 9-12: Campers will learn about cultural dances from around the world and have the opportunity to create costumes, do dance-focused crafts and perform dances they learn.
▪ Artist Legacy, June 16-19: Girls will paint, draw, create T-shirt art and do other art projects using various techniques and materials.
▪ Naturalist Legacy, June 23-26: The focus is on bugs, flowers and trees native to the San Joaquin Valley. Girls will learn about the outdoor world around us by doing nature-focused crafts and activities.
▪ STEM Fun, July 7-10: This camp shows the fun to be had with science, technology, engineering and math. The girls will don safety goggles to complete science experiments, create STEM-related projects and solve fun math problems (goggles won’t be needed for those).
▪ Healthy Living, July 21-24: Campers will learn about making healthy choices, try healthy snacks and learn games from around the world during outside play.
“This will be a great opportunity to see what Girl Scouts is all about,” said Alicia Allen, Girl Scouts Heart of Central California spokeswoman, in an email to The Bee. “Girls can sign up now by downloading forms from our website or coming into the GSHCC Modesto regional office.
“Cost will vary depending on the Bring a Friend program that can reduce the cost per girl by over 20 percent. If the camper is new to Girl Scouts, we have a one-time-per-year Girl Scout membership fee of $15. Financial assistance is also available through Girl Scouts Heart of Central California.”
For more information, call the council’s regional office, 5172 Kiernan Court, Suite D, Salida, at (209) 545-3620, or go to girlscoutshcc.org/daycamp.
